Hydrangeas have always felt a little otherworldly to me— big puffs of hundreds of tiny florets in watercolor shades of periwinkle blue-violet. When I was a child, my family used to visit Cape May, New Jersey every summer. The gingerbread Victorian houses we stayed in were often bordered with hydrangeas, the clouds of blossoms at my eye level. The salt-scented ocean breeze ruffled the petals, setting them fluttering like the wings of thousands of butterflies. I felt like a fairy hiding amongst the bushes, peeking out at the world from my bower of blooms.
Our Chickadee base is an ultra-soft, cloudlike blend of baby Suri aplaca and mulberry silk. It's a laceweight with an incredible halo. Chickadee is perfect for holding together with matching or coordinating colors on our other bases, or knitting on its own for ethereal, feather-light knits. If you or your knitwear recipient have a sensitivity to mohair, but you're craving that fluffy look, Chickadee is a great choice as the baby Suri alpaca is a lot less likely to irritate sensitive skin-- I have very sensitive skin and I can wear Chickadee around my neck, wrists, and forehead with no problem whatsoever.
As this is a hand-dyed yarn, there are no dye-lots and skeins may vary slightly. Please purchase enough for your entire project for best matching. Alternating skeins is recommended. This base is non-superwash, hand-wash, gently press out excess water, and lay flat to dry.
